Forget hot water: how to make your hair dye last longer. 5 secrets
Newly colored hair looks incredible. However, soon after coloring, the saturation can be lost, which is likely to be very upsetting. The right care can change this annoyance. Moreover, the tips are suitable for both dyed and natural colors and do not take much time.
Hair care expert Maryna Vasylenko told OBOZ.UA how to ensure the duration and intensity of the shade. Proper shampoo acidity, avoiding overheating, and leave-in products will help maintain a bright look and preserve the color for a long time.
1. Choose the right shampoo
Choosing the right shampoo is the most important step towards long-term color retention. The expert advises to give preference to shampoos that are designed specifically for colored hair. They contain a formula that helps preserve the color pigment. Another option is to choose a shampoo based on the level of acidity. For colored hair, Maryna advises using a Ph level of 4.5 to 5.5.
2. Replace hot water with lukewarm water
The expert says that you should only wash your hair with lukewarm water, regardless of whether your hair is colored or not. Hot water can cause the color pigment to wash away, so you should limit its use.
"Wash your hair with lukewarm water to preserve the color. Finish washing by rinsing with cool water to give your hair a natural shine," Maryna said.
3. Use a leave-in conditioner or balm
Using a special balm for colored hair will help preserve moisture and color pigment. In particular, a leave-in conditioner creates an additional protective layer that will prolong the brightness of the color. Maryna noted that in addition to protection, sprays and balms make hair more manageable and less prone to breakage.
4. Sun protection in summer
There are leave-in care products designed to protect hair from ultraviolet radiation because UV can cause fading and color washout. Therefore, the expert advises using sunscreen or wearing a hat.
5. Reduce the use of a hot curling iron
"If you are blonde, it is better not to use a straightener at all. High temperatures can cause the cuticle to open and lead to dehydration of the hair, i.e. loss of moisture, which makes it more vulnerable to color loss," the expert warned.
If you can't do without straightening, you should give preference to low temperatures and be sure to use thermal protection.
Investing time and attention in the proper care of colored hair can significantly increase the duration of its saturation. Therefore, following the above tips, your hair color will remain bright and beautiful for a longer time.
