A dim star that has been invisible for almost 80 years may explode and become visible to the naked human eye. Scientists believe that such an event will occur within the next few months.

The "burning star", whose official name is T Coronae Borealis, is located at a distance of 3000 light years from the solar system in the constellation of the North Crown. NASA researchers expect the space object to start brightening from today, and in September it will reach a magnitude of +2, similar to that of Polaris, making it visible to all Earth's inhabitants for the first time since 1946. People will be able to see the object with their own eyes in late summer or early fall, Live Science writes.

T Coronae Borealis is an example of a recurrent "new star". This is a rare phenomenon of the formation of a system consisting of two stars: a cold red giant and a hot white dwarf that orbit each other. With an interval of 80 years, the larger object drops material onto the surface of the smaller one, provoking a violent explosion.

Astronomers observing the "Burning Star" have noticed that this reaction occurs with a certain frequency. The last activities in the double system occurred in 1866 and 1946, during which the star first became brighter and then returned to a dim state. The researchers recorded a new eclipse in 2023, indicating that a second explosion is imminent.

To find the Blazing Star, it is necessary to look for the constellation of the Big Dipper. To the east of it is the red Arcturus, to the north of which you will see the bright Vega. Look carefully at the space between them to see the constellation of the North Crown, where the new star will appear.
