Olympic high jump champion Maria Lasitskene will miss the winter season for the first time in her career, RIA Novosti reports, citing the athlete's coach Gennady Gabrilian. On Sunday, the All-Russian Athletics Federation published a list of participants in the Christmas races in Yekaterinburg, but the 31-year-old Russian was not on it.

Gabrilian explained that the last three years have been difficult for the athlete. She faced injuries that did not allow her to achieve optimal physical shape. In addition, she had accumulated psychological fatigue.

In this regard, it was decided to devote this winter to training in order to smoothly transition to the competition period in the spring and summer cycle. Athletes sometimes decide to skip winter competitions to better prepare for summer races, and for Lasitsken, this was the first time in her career.

"Athletes sometimes give up winter competitions to better prepare for summer. We made this decision for the first time in our lives," Gabrilian said.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, Lasitskene complained that due to sanctions against Russia, she was forced to wear equipment with holes in it.

In response, Ukrainian athlete, Olympic champion and high jump record holder Yaroslava Maguchikh said she had stopped communicating with representatives of the aggressor country.

Before that, the Russian athlete said she didn't want to know anything more about the 2024 Olympics.

It should be noted that last February, Maria complained that her income had halved due to her suspension from international competitions. Despite all the pompous speeches by the authorities, the Russian athlete admitted that domestic tournaments are inferior to continental and world championships in terms of business.
