For the first time in history. A revolutionary new rule is being introduced in football: all the details
A blue card will appear in football. The International Federation of Association Football (IFAB), which administers and regulates the rules of football, has already approved the change and will soon announce it officially, The Telegraph reports.
This will be the first new card used in football since the introduction of the yellow and red cards at the 1970 World Cup. The revolutionary step will be announced by the IFAB as part of the sanctions of temporary suspensions for a cynical foul or expression of dissatisfaction with the referee. It is assumed that a player who is shown a blue card will be suspended for 10 minutes.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) had planned to use a blue card during trials of temporary suspensions at grassroots level this season, with this color chosen over orange to make it more distinct from the existing cards. However, the FAW was unable to obtain permission for this move, and players who were suspended were shown a yellow card.
According to the new rules, a blue card will be given to the offending player for a tactical deliberate foul that interrupts a promising attack, as well as for expressing disagreement with a match official. Two blue cards or a blue plus a yellow card will equal a red card and a sending off.
This innovation will not appear in top-level tournaments in the near future, but the system may be tested in the men's and women's FA Cups this summer.
Similar temporary suspensions will also not be used at this summer's European Championships or next season's Champions League. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said he was completely against such innovations, adding: "This is no longer football."
However, if the trials are successful, UEFA will be forced to introduce all of this in its international tournaments.
On January 24 last year, a white card was shown for the first time in the history of football in a match of the Portuguese Women's Cup. The main referee of the match, Katarina Kampush, rewarded the medical teams of both teams in this way.
