Famous astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy captured a 400-megapixel shot of the Andromeda Galaxy. According to him, this is the largest project - it took him 3 month to make.

The photographer shared his work on his page on X. In less than a day, the photo was viewed by more than 1.7 million people.

McCarthy wrote that he was proud to present the photo, which involved two telescopes and thousands of pictures.

"I proudly present my most detailed photo ever of an extragalactic object: a 400 megapixel photo of the Andromeda Galaxy. Captured over a period of 3 months using 2 telescopes and thousands of photos," he captioned the photo and added that his favorite part is the core.

He posted an enlarged version of it in the comments to the post.

The astrophotographer also said that one of the goals of this work was to capture the way dust and gas rotate around a supermassive black hole, which usually cannot be captured at this level of detail.
