"European Maldives". What does a little-known village in Albania with incredible beaches and cheap vacation look like?
Albania, located a stone's throw from Greece and Italy, claims to be one of the hottest vacation destinations in Europe. Still relatively undiscovered, this Balkan country of 2.8 million people is one of the cheapest destinations in Europe.
White beaches, beautiful landscapes, eclectic cuisine and friendly locals - Albania is like Greece, but without the crowds and sky-high prices. The pearls of this Adriatic paradise are Lukove and Xamil, two resorts on the Albanian Riviera. The tourism industry has dubbed them the "European Maldives," Metro writes.
Overall, the Albanian Riviera's popularity is growing in part due to its status as a promising destination for music and wellness festivals. But while the village of Xamil has already gained popularity among travelers over the past year, Lukove remains an unexplored tourist destination.
The village is located a short boat ride from the Greek island of Corfu and an hour from the Blue Eye, an incredible mountain spring that is one of the attractions of Albania.
When is the best time to travel to the "European Maldives"
If you want to save money on accommodation, it is better to plan a trip in May or October: hotel prices, according to Booking.com, are about 1600 hryvnias per night in May compared to two thousand hryvnias in August.
In general, September and October are the cheapest months of the warm season to travel to Lukove.
What to see in Lukove
First of all, Lukove is a beach resort, so it's not hard to guess what the main attraction is. Although the village's coastline is not in high demand, tourists are delighted with this place. It is noted that Lukove beach is one of the most beautiful in Albania with white sand and beautiful clear sea.
Although a trip to the Albanian resort is mostly for relaxation, there are other activities to do, such as hiking to the mysterious Church of St. Friday, which stands on a high hill.
Since the village is located high above the sea, there are many places from which you can watch the sunset and just enjoy nature.
If you're a fan of good food, there are some great restaurants both on the beach and in the village. One of the beach establishments is located on top of an old bunker that was built by the communists during the Cold War. Here you can get fresh seafood or meat dishes for less than 500 hryvnias.
Depending on the restaurant, dinner at an inexpensive place can cost about 250 hryvnia per person. Beer is also cheap - about 100 hryvnia per bottle.
According to budgetmytrip.com, tourists planning to visit Albania can expect to spend up to 2500 hryvnias per day: this includes food, drinks and activities.
