New UAV attack reported in Kazan

On the night of January 20, several powerful explosions thundered over the Russian city of Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan), where a threat of a UAV attack had been announced earlier. The drones had previously targeted the facilities of the Gorbunov Aviation Plant.

At first, Russian propaganda resources claimed that the air defense system had been triggered there. And after the new explosions, local civilian airports suspended operations.

According to the Russians, at about 04:30 local time, an "airplane-type drone" flew over the city's aircraft construction district. Shortly afterward, a bright flash from an explosion lit up the sky.

Some eyewitnesses claimed that the UAVs attempted to attack local businesses. The drones also flew to the area of the Borisoglebskoye airfield, in particular, targeting fuel tanks.

Amid the night's events, the airports of Nizhnekamsk and Kazan were temporarily closed, introducing the "Carpet" plan, which restricts the arrival and departure of flights.

The Russians reported new explosions in Kazan, claiming that it was loud in the Aviastroitelny, Moskovsky, Kirovsky and Novo-Savinsky districts, and "alarm sirens went off at the 22nd plant."

The Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channel monitor reported that in this Russian region, the facilities of the aviation plant continue to be attacked by drones, on the territory of which explosions were recorded.

There is no official information from the local authorities about the "cotton" in Kazan. The regional Ministry of Emergency Situations only asked Russians "not to panic and, if possible, not to go near windows."

According to ASTRA, the sanctioned Kazan Gorbunov Aircraft Plant was attacked overnight. It is alleged that one of the drones hit an empty tank on the territory of the enterprise.

This plant (a branch of Tupolev) is one of the largest enterprises in the Russian aviation industry, founded in 1932 in Kazan.

It produces Tu-160 strategic bombers and Tu-204 civilian airliners. The plant is located in the eastern part of Kazan's Aviation Construction District and has a nearby Borisoglebskoye factory airfield within the city limits.

The head of the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, confirmed that military facilities in Kazan were attacked by unknown drones last night. He reminded that the city is home to several important aviation enterprises that play a key role in the Russian military-industrial complex.

Among them are the aforementioned Kazan Aviation Plant named after S. P. Gorbunov, which is currently actively expanding, in particular for aircraft maintenance; the Kazan Helicopter Plant, which specializes in the production of helicopters for military and civilian use; the Kazan State Powder Plant, which produces gunpowder and explosives for aircraft ammunition and missiles such as Kalibr and Iskander.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night of January 14, Ukrainian drones attacked a number of military facilities in Russia. As a result of numerous explosions, factories and refineries in the cities of Engels, Saratov, Kazan and others caught fire.
