The 17-year-old son of the head of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andrii Shevchenko made his debut for the youth national team. The second child of the legendary striker played in a yellow and blue shirt for the first time in the first round of the Euro 2024 (U-19) elite qualifiers against his peers from Northern Macedonia.

The opening match of the mini-tournament in Skopje, Macedonia, at the FFM Training Center, ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of our compatriots. Christian Shevchenko appeared on the field in the 79th minute, replacing Hennadii Sinchuk.

Dmytro Mykhaienko's men made a confident start to the match, opening the scoring just before the break. In the 46th minute, after a corner kick, Krevsun confidently played on the rebound, making the score 1-0.

At the very start of the second half, Ponomarenko increased the advantage of the Ukrainian national team with an accurate "shot" from outside the penalty area. At the end of the game, the Macedonians remained in the minority.

On March 23, Ukraine U-19 will play against Latvia U-19. On March 26, a game against Switzerland U-19 is scheduled. The winner of the group advances to the final part of the European Championship, which will take place on July 15-28, 2024, and will be a UEFA qualifier for the 2025 U-20 World Cup.

Andrii Shevchenko congratulated the national team on his Instagram, commenting on his son's performance.

"Two more matches separate us from Euro 2024. There was incredible energy on the field and in the stadium! I am grateful to Dmytro Mykhailenko and his team. It is a special joy to congratulate player number 7 on his debut in the youth national team," Shevchenko Sr. wrote.

As OBOZ.UA reported, Shevchenko Jr. made a spectacular debut for Watford's youth team. He helped the team reach the League Cup final. On February 11, an interview appeared that Christian, who was born in November 2006 in London, wants to become a citizen of Ukraine.
