In June, Ukraine imported 858,400 MWh of electricity, which is 6% more than in the whole of 2023. It is the largest monthly volume in the last 10 years. Most of the electricity was purchased in Hungary (42%), Slovakia and Romania (17% each).

This is reported by DiXi Group with reference to Energy Map data. According to the results of June, the largest volume of electricity was imported from Hungary - 357,100 MWh, which is 42% of the total.

Another 297,000 MWh came from Slovakia and Romania (17% from each country) and 138,100 MWh (16%) from Poland. The least amount of electricity was purchased from Moldova - 66,200 MWh, or 8% of the monthly volume.

Compared to the previous month (448,200 MWh), imports almost doubled, and compared to June 2023 (43,700 MWh), they increased almost 20 times. There were no electricity exports in June.

Also last month, Ukraine asked emergency assistance from Romania, Slovakia, and Poland for five days, and gave away surplus electricity on June 2 and 22 due to the inability to supply domestic consumers. In addition, for eight days in June, Ukraine provided assistance to Poland in the form of urgent reception of surplus electricity, receiving a total of more than 8,000 MWh of electricity.

Ukrenergo CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyi complained that Ukraine was receiving less electricity from the EU due to increased consumption amid hot weather in Europe . Due to significant damage to generating and distribution capacities, Ukraine has introduced blackout schedules for more than a month, which have recently been extended to a full day.
