The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission has documented damage to substations critical to the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. These damages were caused by Russian attacks.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy. They noted that Russia's strikes on civilian energy facilities – including key nuclear power plant substations – "directly threaten the nuclear and radiation safety of the whole of Europe."

"The IAEA experts assessed the damage caused by the latest hostile attacks in November-December at energy infrastructure facilities critical for the delivery of nuclear power plant power to consumers and for the supply of power to NPPs' own needs. ... The experts, in particular, could compare the intensity of the attacks and, as a result, the damage to the facilities from the previous attacks," the statement said.

The Ministry reminded: "On December 12, the IAEA Board of Governors at an extraordinary meeting initiated by Ukraine adopted a resolution on the inadmissibility of Russian attacks on critical infrastructure for nuclear power plant operations. And on December 13, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, "in particular, substations critical to the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants."

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the European Union and the United States do not support and refuse to finance the construction of new Ukrainian nuclear energy facilities and the expansion of existing ones. Therefore, such projects can only be carried out at Ukraine's own expense.
