Could only be the executor: photo of Farion's murder suspect published

On July 25, an 18-year-old man allegedly involved in the premeditated murder of a well-known public figure and MP of the VII convocation, Iryna Farion, was detained in Dnipro. He was identified using photos from smart video surveillance cameras.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office. The attacker was detained in Dnipro at his residence.

A new photo of the alleged murder suspect was also shared online.

Now, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the detainee is being served a notice of suspicion of premeditated murder (Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. Investigative actions are ongoing, and all circumstances are being established.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko also said during the telethon that a measure of restraint would be chosen for the suspect today or tomorrow.

"There is enough evidence to state that it was the detainee who shot at the linguist. 139 hours of continuous work by a huge team of operatives, investigators, criminal analysts, experts, other police services, and employees of the Security Service of Ukraine. We checked every corner along the shooter's route and searched about 100 hectares of forest," Klymenko said.

It is known that during the preparation for the crime he rented at least three apartments in Lviv. The investigation also suggests that the detainee was only the perpetrator of the crime.

"The detainee is now in the hands of the police. It is important to find out all the details. Currently, the investigation is inclined to believe that the shooter was only the executor," the minister said.

The head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi, said that hundreds of police officers were involved in the search for the murder suspect.

"The large-scale and painstaking work of hundreds of police officers: sleepless nights, thousands of checked people, hundreds of kilometers traveled and hectares of forest inspected, tens of gigabytes of video have yielded results – the police have exposed and detained the killer of Iryna Farion today in the city of Dnipro.

I am sincerely grateful to the President of Ukraine and the Minister of Internal Affairs, as well as to everyone who did their job, despite everything. After all, this brazen and horrific crime was planned, despite the young age of the defendant," the statement reads.

At the place of detention in Dnipro, local resident Yan told Suspilne that he had known the suspect personally since he was five years old. His name is Viacheslav Zinchenko. They attended sports clubs together. He played for the U-19 Youth Sports School.

"He lives with his mother, a very decent guy. He studies well, I would never have thought that he could do such a thing, I'm sure he didn't do it. As far as I know, he hasn't traveled anywhere lately, his mother is in touch with his mother, so there was no information that he had gone anywhere," he said.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on Friday evening, July 19, linguist and former MP Iryna Farion was shot in Lviv. It happened near her house on Masaryk Street. Despite the efforts of doctors, Farion died in the hospital at 23:20.
