On the morning of April 14, the governor of Kurgan Oblast, Vadim Shumkov, "pleased" the residents of Kurgan with a message that the water level in the Tobol River had risen by 54 cm overnight, reaching almost 5 meters. If the water level rises to 6 meters, flooding of the right and lower part of the left bank of the river is predicted.

At the same time, Shumkov noted, the rate of water arrival increased in the morning.

"Over the past two hours, water has been adding 20 cm. The flow is noticeably increasing. The water is coming to the city," Shumkov said.

The governor urged the citizens to "leave immediately". Sirens have been wailing in the city since the morning.

At the same time, the local authorities did not provide organized evacuation for the residents. All the "help" consists in the fact that "electricity and gas will be forced to be turned off as a preventive measure to avoid accidents and accidents," and in Kurgan, where the water is getting closer and closer, "several shelters for your pets have been prepared, several parking lots have been created, and several dozen temporary accommodation centers have been set up."

A map with flood zones has also been published in local public media. The areas that will be flooded after the water level reaches 6.74 meters are marked in green, those that will be submerged at 8.31 meters are marked in yellow, those that will be submerged at 9.25 meters are marked in red, and those that will be submerged at almost 11 meters are marked in blue.

As a reminder, the threat of Kurhan being flooded became known on the eve of April 13. This is the town where the only infantry fighting vehicle manufacturing plant is located.

The day before, Shumkov said that the flood was approaching the village of Baraba, 30 kilometers from Kurhan, and was moving at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per day. "If you all don't leave in advance, you may not be able to stay in the attic and on the roof," he addressed the residents of the region.
