Carpathian Tram: a great way to admire snow-covered mountains and lush fir trees

The Carpathian narrow-gauge railway has its own special attraction for tourists. Throughout the year, the Carpathian Tram runs on these 760 mm wide tracks. Romantics and those who cannot imagine an interesting trip without the sound of wheels and picturesque landscapes outside the window will love this tram, which is actually a small train.

The route of the Carpathian Tram starts from the village of Vyhoda in Ivano-Frankivsk region. Tickets can be purchased at the station's ticket office, by booking a tour through the Facebook page, or by taking advantage of one-day tours from Lviv, which include a tram ride and many other interesting things.

Ticket prices for the Carpathian Tram:

  • common, pensioner, student - 200 UAH ($4,75);
  • children (from 6 to 14 years old) - 150 UAH ($3,50);
  • ATO participants and military personnel with a certificate - free of charge.

In winter, you can take a trip to the Carpathians by tram on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. An additional trip is also possible on Friday, provided the group is at least 40 people. You can check the schedule of the Carpathian Tram at the information desk in Vyhoda village or at kartram.com.ua.

You can choose the type of car depending on the purpose of the tour:

  • Locomotive (12 seats) to see what the driver's work consists of
  • Closed car with soft seats for admiring the panoramas outside the window
  • Convertible car and open platform for the best photos (better book for the warm season)

The route

Your journey among the snowy Carpathians will last 4 hours. There are also picturesque stops along the way to help you enjoy the beauty and breathe in the fresh mountain air.

The trip is accompanied by a guide, so you will hear many interesting stories and historical facts about the area outside the window of your car. Between the stories, the tram is filled with the sounds of famous Ukrainian songs, such as "Smereka" or "Marusya". The atmosphere during the tour is lively, cheerful and filled with the fabulous beauty of winter and the Carpathians.

Starting your journey from the town of Vyhoda, the Carpathian Tram will take you up Mount Tserkvyshte and through the Shyrkovets Marsh. The village of Novyi Mizun will be the first stop, where you will take a walk by the reservoir. The stop at the Horyanka mineral spring is full of legends and beliefs. The water body is known for its cooling power and therapeutic effects on the body. The further path of the tram will lead you to the Mizunski waterfalls along the Mizunka River. On the way to the waterfalls, you will be greeted by bridges, white forest glades, snow-covered fir trees and crystal waters. After that, you will see the Dzyurkach spring and the Dzherelo Prykarpattia sanatorium. You will have the opportunity to walk along the suspension bridges, drink from the mineral spring, and buy a variety of souvenirs. The tram will then bring you back to Vyhoda village, filling you with memories and a dreamy and fairy-tale mood.
