Canaries or Madeira: where is it better and cheaper to fly in winter
During the cold months, many people dream of warm sunshine. And when it comes to choosing a vacation destination in Europe, many doubts immediately arise. Where to go, which country to choose, or how to avoid the rainy season. So what's better: beaches with black volcanic sand or picturesque mountains - we'll tell you below.
Madeira
Madeira is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. The archipelago is characterized by a temperate and favorable climate. In winter, the average temperature ranges from +18°C to +22°C.
Praia da Calheta is one of the few beaches with yellow sand brought from the Sahara. It is located in the town of Calheta. The coast is relatively small, about 100 meters. The location is perfect for a family vacation, as the sea is calm.
To the northeast of Madeira is the island of Porto Santo. Its coastline stretches for 9 kilometers. It is said that the local loose rock has healing properties, relieves rheumatism pain and promotes bone fusion.
We recommend a trip to the capital city of Funchal. First, we recommend going to the Farmer's Market. It was opened in 1940. Tourists can buy a variety of fruits and vegetables. Also visit the local cathedral. The shrine was built in the XV century in the Gothic style. Also, climb to the Cabo Girão observation deck, 580 meters above sea level.
And, of course, visit the small town of Santana. It is famous for its triangular houses made of stone, straw and reeds. In February, an apartment for two people for 5 nights will cost about €248. A double room will cost approximately €269.
Canary Islands
They are located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwestern coast of Africa. They are characterized by a tropical, moderately hot and dry climate. In winter, the average temperature ranges from +20°C to +21°C.
Tenerife
The largest island in the archipelago. The southern part is famous for its favorable sunbathing conditions, and the northern part for its beaches with volcanic sand.
El Médano and Playa de La Tejita are the most favorite and most visited coasts among kitesurfers and windsurfers. We also advise you to go to Playa de Benijo, where large rocks prevail.
We recommend going to Loro Parque. It is home to various species of animals, including penguins, gorillas and fur seals.
An apartment for 5 nights for two people will cost about €382. A standard room will cost approximately €495.
Fuerteventura
Even in winter, the weather is mild with an average temperature of +19, +20°C. The island is characterized by a safe environment - there are no poisonous snakes or dangerous mammals.
The coastline stretches for more than 340 kilometers and has about one and a half hundred beaches. The east coast is characterized by rocky formations and cozy bays.
Calheta de Fuste is a large resort near the capital and the airport, where families with children often vacation. Be sure to go to the round fortress Castillo de San Buenaventura of the XVIII century. It was built to protect the territory from pirates.
A standard room for 5 nights for two people will cost about €450. For an apartment you will have to pay about €386.
Both destinations offer a variety of activities and a warm winter climate. The Canary Islands are more focused on water sports, while Madeira offers more opportunities for hiking and cultural exploration.
