Briedis reveals the reason for Usyk's rematch with Dubois
Former world heavyweight champion Mairis Briedis has expressed the opinion that Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) is not benefiting from a fight against Daniel Dubois (22-0, 21 KOs) for four belts. The more titles are at stake, the more our compatriot will have to pay to the sanctioning bodies from his fee.
Briedis said this on his YouTube channel, analyzing the possible revenge of the Ukrainian and the British. The Latvian ex-boxer noted that each federation takes three percent from the athlete as payment for the championship fight, and besides, Usyk may lose.
"Boxing for four belts is not profitable at all. Because each belt is minus three percent of the fee. Yes, it's prestigious, you can box once or twice when you get paid a lot of money. For example, let's say Oleksandr Usyk earned 100 million. He needs to pay you 12 million for defending those belts. 12 million is a huge amount. I don't know how much he has to be offered to agree to take the risk and box with Dubois. To take a risk because there is always room for a lucky break in boxing," Briedis said.
Earlier, Du Bois spoke out categorically about Usyk, from whom he demanded a rematch, jumping into the ring after Alexander's victory over Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) on December 21. The Briton also explained his action.
It will be recalled that Usyk defeated Dubois by technical knockout in the ninth round in August 2023, and the Briton was punished with a dirty punch below the belt.
Manager Aegis Klimas told us when Oleksandr plans to return to the ring. Artificial intelligence has already made a prediction for the Ukrainian's fight.
Earlier it became known that Usyk may give up one of the championship belts to return to the ring of the legendary Wladimir Klitschko (64-5-0-1, 54 KOs).
