Blue super moon struck the world: photos and video of the bright astronomical event
Last night, August 19, in different parts of the world observed a rare astronomical phenomenon - a blue super moon. Although the color of the August full moon was traditional, its size and brightness were astounding.
This blue super moon is the first of four consecutive super moons in 2024. Not to miss such a colorful cosmic event, Space.com offered to watch its ascent live.

Supermoons are especially amazing because they occur when the Moon is within 90% of its closest approach to Earth. This is why it appears 30% brighter and 14% larger than normal.

According to NASA, about 25 percent of all full moons are supermoons, but only 3 percent of full moons are blue moons.

True, we are not talking about color here. A blue moon is just a term for when we see a full moon twice within one month. But such a phenomenon is quite rare and irregular, averaging every 10 years. The next super blue moons will occur in pairs in January and March 2037.
