Astronomers from the National Radio Astronomy Foundation of the United States have discovered new neutron stars, also called "dead" because they are at the last stage of evolution, near the center of the Milky Way. Researchers call the celestial bodies "monsters", because of their excessively dense structure and rapid rotation, they acquire bizarre shapes and are able to absorb smaller neighbors.

Unknown pulsars, objects moving around their axis at speeds of up to 700 times per second and emitting radiation, are located in the Terzan 5 cluster in the constellation of Sagittarius, writes Space.com. The cosmic bodies are 18,000 light-years from Earth.

"It's very unusual to find new exotic pulsars. But what is really fascinating is the wide variety of such 'oddballs' in one cluster," noted scientist Scott Ransom.

American astronomers discovered new celestial bodies with the help of telescopes Green Bank and MeerKAT. Researchers managed to fix about 3600 pulsars, but only 20 of them attracted the most attention.

Two neutron stars that form a rare coherent object are called "vampires," according to scientists. In this combination, the stronger and larger celestial body extracts matter from the smaller one, similar to the process of feeding a fairy tale character. The transferred matter increases its rotational speed, which can reach hundreds of times per second.

Scientists have also managed to detect other cosmic "monsters" - spider pulsars. These objects are also known as "Red Widows" or "Black Widows", depending on the structure of the companion star. These types of neutron bodies destroy smaller neighbors using high-energy radiation.

Scientists note that the discovery of new celestial objects will help to better investigate the structure of pulsars and understand the impact of evolution in constellations on them.
