As on postcards: the road in Italy was named the most beautiful in the world
If you like traveling by car and plan to spend your summer vacation behind the wheel, be sure to add the road in Italy, which has been called one of the most beautiful in the world, to your list. Here you can enjoy seascapes and many historical sights.
According to the Express, it's a trip along the Amalfi Coast. These 22 kilometers of road leave a truly unforgettable impression. At least that's what the results of a study conducted by one of the insurance companies in the tourism sector say.
The route begins on a road built in the Roman Empire, which is itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And then you'll encounter at least one historical landmark for every kilometer of the route - the highest density for such routes in the world.
To follow this route, find the SS 163 road on the map. Sometimes it is called the "road with a thousand and one turns" because it is quite winding. Start in the port city of Salerno. Almost immediately you will come across Capo d'Orso, a lighthouse carved into the rocks. Just a short drive away, you'll see Palazzo Avino, a 12th-century palace built in a winding maze. From there you will reach the town of Amalfi itself. It's worth making a stop here, as it offers a lot of interesting things for travelers.
Along the way, you will also see the Emerald Grotto and St. Andrew's Cathedral, and admire the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and its picturesque cliffs.
The finish of the route is the city of Naples. It is famous not only for its rich history, but also for its characteristic gastronomy. In the city, it is worth visiting the famous fish markets, which sell everything from anchovies to octopus. You can also go to one of the many trattorias that can be found at every turn.
After the peaceful tranquility of the Amalfi Coast, Naples is an energizing end to your vacation, and if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can take the train to Pompeii to immerse yourself in the culture. Just make sure you have enough time to spend at least a day there.
