Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks and others: seven celebrities who refuse to watch movies with their participation
Some Hollywood stars believe that the most important thing is to star in a movie and that it is not necessary to watch it. Some are overly self-critical of their work, while others simply see no point in watching a movie.
Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Johnny Depp, and others – OBOZREVATEL tells why they don't watch movies with their participation.
Tom Hanks
Hanks, who won Oscars for Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, believes that watching your movies is a "terrible mistake."
"Because you never know what to do. You only seem to learn what not to do. The thing about watching old movies is that they don't change," he said in an interview with ABC News.
Nicole Kidman
Out of all the films with her participation, Kidman has only seen Moulin Rouge and Australia, the actress admitted in an interview with the Daily Mail.
"I usually don't watch my movies, but because of Baz (Baz Luhrmann, Australian director - Ed.) I had to watch it (Australia - Ed.). I saw Moulin Rouge. I have seen only this and this in my entire career," the star said.
Angelina Jolie
Jolie says she enjoys the process of creating her films more than watching them. Back in 2009, the actress said that she likes to watch only the works of her then-husband Brad Pitt.
"I like the process of creating them (films - Ed.) more than watching them. I don't like watching movies. I like to watch Brad's movies," she said in an interview with Good Morning America.
Reese Witherspoon
The winner of the Oscar for "Walk the Line" admits that she mentally blocks out all the films she has appeared in.
"I have absolute amnesia for every movie I've ever been in. I won't watch them because if I did, I would fall into a state of self-loathing. But sometimes I come across a passage, look at it, and think: "I remember absolutely nothing about this." It's really weird," Witherspoon told the Daily Express.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Paltrow told USA Today that it is difficult for her to see herself on the screen. According to the actress, the only movie she can still watch is Wes Anderson's 2001 drama The Tenenbaums.
"I really hate, hate, hate seeing myself in movies. And this is like the only scene I can watch in my entire career," Gwyneth said.
Joaquin Phoenix
Proclaimed by The New York Times to be "one of the greatest actors of the 21st century," Phoenix is known for hating to watch movies with his participation.
"Paul Thomas Anderson (director - Ed.) made me watch The Master, and I watched Her. Those are the only two movies I've seen. I still struggle with it..." he said in an interview with Time Out London.
Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp, like many other actors, doesn't like to see himself on screen. In an interview with the Independent, he said that he will never be able to watch movies with his participation.
"In a way, when my work on a movie is done, it's not my business anymore. I stay as far away as possible... I don't like looking at myself," Depp explained.
