Almost $ 1 million found on the ex-head of Chernihiv regional election commission
The former head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Medical Commission was found to have almost one million US dollars. The searches were conducted in one of his apartments in Kyiv.
The investigative actions were conducted on February 21 as part of an investigation into one of the criminal proceedings. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.
The suspect worked as the chairman of the Chernihiv Regional Military Commission before the full-scale Russian invasion - until the summer of 2021.
According to the investigation, the former official, together with currently unidentified officials of the Chernihiv MLC of the TCC and JV, assisted residents of Chernihiv in evading conscription during mobilization.
The suspect received USD 5 thousand from a person liable for military service for declaring him unfit for military service for health reasons and removing him from the military register. The man was then able to leave the country without any obstacles.
Law enforcement officers conducted 11 searches at the residences and workplaces of current members of the Chernihiv TCC and JV. In the suspect's apartment, they found funds in the amount of over USD 972 thousand and EUR 22.5 thousand.
The Chernihiv Telegram channel published a video of the searches that investigators conducted in the former official's apartment in the capital. According to the footage, he kept the dollars in toaster and candy boxes.
The suspect is charged with obtaining illegal benefit, obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, as well as illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 368, Part 1 of Article 114-1, 2.) 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The Desnianskyi District Court of Chernihiv remanded the suspect in custody without the possibility of bail.
