VW's management has previously said that in order to avoid a crisis situation, it will have to enter austerity mode. This is already happening - the company is cutting costs by selling its first plant. And cheap new products will help to make money.

Motor1 has learned the details. Earlier it was reported that the production of some new models - in particular, an inexpensive electric crossover - could be threatened by drastic savings. However, at the moment, they limited themselves to abandoning the plant.

This is still the first plant. It is expected that Volkswagen may soon sell at least one more production site (including in Germany). The concern has now lost its joint venture with China's SAIC in China.

At the same time, the company decided to make its partnership with SAIC closer and extend it until 2040. That is, the company plans to strengthen its position in the Chinese market by cutting costs in the region.

New models will help to make money. Traditionally, they will be inexpensive for the local market. By 2026, at least two new electric cars are expected, followed by 16 more models.
