The State Film Agency reacts to the popularity of the Slovo Patsana Russian series

The State Film Agency of Ukraine has responded to the hype in the Ukrainian information space around the Russian Slovo Patsana propaganda series, which romanticizes the U.S.S.R., robbery and crime. The State Film Agency stated that the distribution and demonstration of the Russian film product "is clearly regarded as a violation of the law, which is punishable."

This was reported in an official response to an information request from Ukrainian News. The State Film Agency emphasized that the series is a propaganda product that, in the context of the terrorist war in Ukraine, "popularizes and creates a positive image of the employees of the aggressor state, employees of the Soviet state security agencies and contains propaganda of the Russian totalitarian regime, the armed aggression of the Russian Federation."

In addition, watching the series violates the law as it is "produced by individuals and legal entities of the aggressor state." The letter states that the ban on the distribution and demonstration of such film products applies to any films and TV series produced and/or first released after January 1, 2014.

The Ukrainian State Film Agency also commented that the series will not be shown in cinemas or on television channels in any case. This series was not included in the State Register of Films and was not planned to be included in the State Register of Films as it a priori falls under the prohibitions provided for by the Law on Cinematography.

As for the streaming services, the State Film Agency noted that they may face administrative liability and a fine. However, it is not yet known how Ukrainian government agencies will be able to influence these platforms.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine also responded to the distribution of the Russian series in the Ukrainian media space. Viewers were urged to avoid popularizing and watching film products from a hostile country as it finances the war and promotes Kremlin narratives. The official statement once again emphasized that Slovo Patsana contains Russian propaganda.

The remarks also referred to media professionals who "consciously or unconsciously play along with the occupiers" by advertising Russian content by the terrorist country. Well-known blogger Anna Alkhim, who boasted that she was watching a Russian TV series, was among them.

Meanwhile, Masha Efrosynina also reacted to the hype around the series. The presenter expressed her indignation at the fact that media professionals and ordinary citizens are defending their "right" to listen and watch Russian content, forgetting that Ukrainian soldiers are dying for them at this exact moment.

For those who believe that there are no alternatives to the Russian series among the domestic film products, OBOZ.UA has made a special selection. We have collected five projects that can be watched instead. We also wrote about why you shouldn't watch a propaganda series about the U.S.S.R. here.

The film, by the way, features the son of the main critic of the Putin regime, musician and frontman of the band Time Machine, Andrey Makarevich.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, along with the series, which is rapidly gaining popularity, the song "Piyala" by the Russian band Aigel, which is the soundtrack of the same project, reached first place in the Top 100 in Ukraine rating on Apple Music.
