Archaeologists have unearthed the secret tomb of Al-Khazneh in the ancient and mysterious city of Petra (Jordan). They have found human remains and a cup. It is symbolic that this 2000-year-old building was the filming location for the famous movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, whose characters, according to the script, found a "Holy Grail" cup here.

When filming their iconic movie in 1989, its creators did not even suspect that human remains and the mysterious cup were actually under the building where they were filming. After all, Al-Khazneh, also known as the Treasury, is a mausoleum, in which, however, no remains have been found so far, writes DailyMail.

Al-Khazneh, an exquisite building carved into the pink sandstone cliffs, is the main attraction of Petra. In 2007, the Treasury was named one of the seven new wonders of the world. Although no human remains have been found inside before, scientists were convinced that Al-Khazneh was built as a mausoleum. After all, tombs had been found here, although empty.

This time, the archaeologists, led by Dr Pearce Paul Creasman, executive director of the American Center of Research (ACOR), were amazed by the find. After all, the excavated tomb contained 12 skeletal remains and grave goods made of bronze, iron, and ceramics, including a Grail-shaped bowl that, surprisingly, looks exactly like the one in the movie Indiana Jones.

Dr Creasman emphasized that the intact burial site provides a rare glimpse into the lives of the Nabataeans, ancient Arab nomads whose desert kingdom flourished from the fourth century BCE to 106 CE.

Discovery Channel host Josh Gates also took part in the opening of the tomb near Al-Khazneh. "In the two centuries that Petra has been investigated by archaeologists, nothing like this has been found before. Even in front of one of the most famous buildings in the world … there are still huge discoveries to be made," Gates emphasized.
