The American horror film directed by Michael Sarnosky and written by Jeff Nichols, "A Quiet Place. Day One" (original title "A Quiet Place: Day One"), based on the original story by John Krasinski, was released in Ukraine on June 28. The film stars Lupita Nyong 'o and Joseph Quinn.

"A Quiet Place. Day One" starts with a bang, literally. When ailing Sam (Lupita Nyong'o) and her hospice group are sent on a trip to New York City, they find themselves at ground zero of a bloodthirsty alien invasion that lands under a fiery meteor shower, writes the premiere's plot. What isn't destroyed by the meteors is torn apart by the aliens, who immediately begin attacking anything that makes noise, writes Inverse about the plot of the movie.

Sam, along with another survivor, Eric (Joseph Quinn), tries to navigate the new silent world. The emotional state of the protagonist is the driving force behind this prequel. Just like in the original film, there are giant aliens, spindly brown spider-like creatures, but instead of the bucolic family farm and small town of the first films, the prequel introduces a new pair of protagonists with whom you will deeply connect during this horrific day in New York, writes the BBC.

In the prequel, Sarnoski has shifted the focus from the values of survival, family, and community that have shaped Krazinski's films to something more nihilistic, but affecting. According to Empire Online, "A Quiet Place: Day One" may not boast the freshness of the first film's concept, but in terms of sheer emotional payoff, it's the most satisfying of the series.

"Day One" is a beautifully realized emotional story, and thanks to Nyong'o and Quinn's gripping performances, the prequel is never uninteresting. But Krasinski's two films set the bar high. They are endlessly tense and full of the desperate desire of parents to protect their children. "Day One updates the concept of the series but doesn't keep you in suspense enough.

''A Quiet Place: Day One.'' Why this apocalyptic horror movie became a spiritual blockbuster?

So, if you're a fan of the first "A Quiet Place" and are expecting another incredibly intense sci-fi horror movie, you'll likely be disappointed with such a reflective and quiet blockbuster. "Day One" surpasses expectations of what a "A Quiet Place" movie and a true blockbuster should be and instead offers something much more moving and heartbreaking. It's a stunning synthesis of an art-house director's vision with franchise filmmaking, and the result is a heartfelt blockbuster unlike any of its contemporaries.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, "A Quiet Place: Day One" has an 84% rating. And on imdb.com, the prequel has a rating of 6.8/10.

According to the studio's estimates on Sunday, the prequel earned approximately $53 million in its first weekend in North American theaters, ranking second on the charts. The first place is still confidently held by the grandiose Disney and Pixar movie "Inside Out 2".
