A list of harmful fairy tales that should not be read to children
Fairy tales are a very specific thing!
My personal top:
Carlson - gives an absolute distorted view of friendship - The Kid is always submitting to the wishes of
Carlson and sacrifices his own comfort for the sake of his "friend" instead of building personal boundaries.
Cinderella - The film defines victim behavior as the only successful scenario for a woman and successful marriage as a way out of all troubles. It also demonizes stepmothers as such. I have always missed Cinderella's active position and understanding of what went wrong in the stepmother-stepdaughter relationship.
The LittleRed Riding Hood is a question for everyone. Both to the mother who sends her child alone into the dark forest (why don't they go together? It would be safer for the child and have a great time) and to the girl herself, who speaks to a stranger in the forest without hesitation (obviously, there were no discussions about safety in this family). And most of all, to the scenes of violence (just think of what happened to Wolf).
