A large-scale terrorist attack was being prepared in the center of Kyiv: Security Service of Ukraine detains enemy agent. Details and photos
A Russian agent was detained in the capital, who, according to the investigation, was supposed to organize a large-scale terrorist attack in the center of Kyiv. The offender was preparing to detonate explosives near the building of one of the SSU structural units.
This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine. The suspect faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
"SSU counterintelligence and investigators prevented a large-scale terrorist attack on one of the central crowded streets of Kyiv. As a result of the special operation, a Russian agent was detained in the capital who was preparing to detonate explosives near the building of one of the SSU structural units," the press service said.
The Security Service emphasized that the place where the explosion was supposed to take place according to the enemy's plan was not used by the special service. For the period of the full-scale invasion, they were redeployed to backup workplaces. However, the SSU emphasized that a potential terrorist attack could have resulted in large casualties among civilians in the central part of the city.
At the scene, the detainee was found to be carrying a bag containing an improvised explosive device with a capacity of 7 kg of TNT equivalent. Such a charge is enough to seriously damage the building and cause fatal injuries to people around the epicenter of the explosion.
To prepare for a terrorist attack in the capital, the enemy remotely recruited a 22-year-old drug addict from Lviv who was looking for "quick" money on Telegram channels. On the instructions of the occupiers, the girl came to Kyiv, where her Russian handler rented an apartment in the city center for her in advance. After moving into the temporary accommodation, she picked up a mini-video surveillance camera via courier delivery and installed it on the balcony.
"With the help of remote access, the enemy was able to monitor the central street of Kyiv online and thus wanted to record the consequences of the terrorist attack. The SSU officers were proactive and detained the offender red-handed when she took a bag with explosives from the hiding place and was heading to a rented apartment. During the search, the SSU additionally seized a cell phone that she used to communicate with the Russian special service," the press service added.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion on the facts of high treason committed under martial law, preparation for a terrorist attack, and illegal handling of explosives. The offender is in custody. Urgent comprehensive measures are under way to bring to justice all persons involved in the planning and preparation of the terrorist attack.
