A 35-year-old boxer won the WBA championship belt and died a week later. Video
Puerto Rican boxer Paul Bamba, who won the WBA Gold belt in the first heavyweight division a week ago, died on December 27. The cause of the tragedy has not been reported.
The athlete's family released a statement expressing deep sorrow over his passing, noting his warmth, love, and inspiring determination. The family asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.
"We are deeply saddened by his passing and ask that you show respect for our grief and understanding at this difficult time," said a joint statement released by his manager, singer Ne-Yo.
Bamba began his professional career in 2021 and in a short time achieved impressive results – 19 wins (18 by knockout) with three losses.
"Tonight I achieved the goal I set for myself this year. 14 fights – 14 knockouts. I ended the year with a good hard fight against a more experienced opponent. The fight was intense and ended in a stoppage. I am grateful to everyone who was behind me. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who breathed faith in me. Great things are on the horizon for 2025," the boxer commented on his victory on December 21.
In addition, a video of Bamba's last fight, which he held on December 21, was posted online. In the US arena, Paul confidently defeated Mexican Rogelio Medina and won the gold championship belt according to the World Boxing Association (WBA). The current WBA heavyweight champion is Mexican Gilberto Ramirez.
