Popular lakes in Ukraine

Ukraine never ceases to amaze with its natural treasures. A special place among them belongs to lakes. From the highland Carpathian lakes to the wide Volyn reservoirs, each of them has its own unique vibe.

Brebeneskul (Zakarpattia region)

The highest mountain lake in Ukraine is located at an altitude of 1801 meters above sea level. To get to the reservoir, you need to go on a hike along the Chornohora ridge. Due to its special shape, Brebeneskul is also called the "Blue Eye of the Carpathians".

You need to be brave to swim in the lake because the water temperature here reaches no more than 9 degrees Celsius even in summer. You can pitch a tent on the shore and spend the night to watch the most amazing sunrise in your life.

An interesting fact: the name of the reservoir comes from the Romanian word "brebenoc", which means "periwinkle". Locals believe that once upon a time there was a meadow under the mountain where these flowers grew.

Svitiaz (Volyn region)

One of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine is also the deepest lake in our country. The reservoir belongs to the group of famous Shatsk lakes. The maximum distance from the surface to the bottom is 58 meters, which is almost four times the depth of the Sea of Azov.

Svitiaz is an ideal place for swimming because its waters are extremely clean and contain silver ions. The bottom and beaches have fine white sand. Nearby there are sanatoriums, hotels and recreation centers where you can stay and enjoy the scenery of this region.

An interesting fact: in the 70s of the nineteenth century, a passenger ship used to run on the lake. It transported locals and tourists.

Lemuria (Kherson region)

According to a legend, once upon a time, the Lake Lemuria used to be on the site of the reservoir, hence the modern name. It is famous for the unusual pink color of its water, which also has healing properties. Due to the high concentration of salt, here, as well as on the Dead Sea, you can lie on the waves without drowning.

While vacationing in this region, you will have a unique opportunity to take healing baths in mud, the healing properties of which are scientifically proven and famous throughout Europe. Local mud is even supplied to cosmetic companies in the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and other countries.

An interesting fact: the water in the lake is pink due to the vital activity of the unicellular algae Dunaliella salina. They produce beta-carotene when exposed to the sun. Therefore, the hotter the summer, the more saturated the color becomes.

Synevyr is located at an altitude of 989 meters on the territory of the reserve of the same name, so swimming is prohibited. However, you can breathe in the fresh mountain air and walk through the centuries-old spruce forests that surround the lake.
