Interesting ancient sights that tourists should see

Our world is so vast and diverse that there is always room for mysteries. UFOs in the drawings of the ancient Egyptians, Maya tribes having so much information about space, the disappearance of certain civilizations... Historians are still trying to find answers to some questions but in vain. Tourists love locations filled with "supernatural" curiosities.

Nazca lines, Peru

The mysterious geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in Peru are a unique heritage of an ancient civilization. It is also one of the most impressive archaeological wonders that you want to see with your own eyes.

Just imagine: huge drawings on the ground that form images of geometric shapes, birds, sun, moon, and animals. Some of them are incredibly large: from tens to hundreds of meters long. It's not easy to see them, you need to climb to the top. This can be done during a helicopter tour or from the nearby hills.

The geoglyphs were created approximately between the second century BC and the seventh century AD by the famous Nazca civilization that inhabited this region in ancient times. The drawings were made by removing red oxide clay from the desert surface, making them appear bleached against the surrounding sand. How exactly this was done is not yet known for certain. Historians tend to believe that stones, sticks, and various ceramic products were used for this process. This is also evidenced by the findings that archaeologists have managed to excavate.

It is important to note that the figures have been relatively well preserved over the centuries due to the unique climatic conditions of the desert where they are located. Rare precipitation and the absence of winds helped protect the lines from destruction.

The main mystery of the drawings is their purpose. To this day, it is not known exactly what these figures were created for. There are many hypotheses, including religious, astronomical, and hydrological theories. Some scientists believe that these were objects for observing solar and lunar eclipses, while others suggest that geoglyphs were used for various rituals.

In order to preserve the Nazca lines and study their origin, they were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.

These amazing geoglyphs remain one of the greatest mysteries of archaeology and continue to attract the attention of researchers and tourists from around the world.

Stonehenge, UK

This is an archaeological site consisting of stone monoliths arranged in a ring shape. This ancient complex, known for its great historical significance, remains one of the most famous mysteries in the world.

Stonehenge consists of two main components: an outer circle of large flat monoliths that point upwards, and an inner circle of smaller vertical stones connected by horizontal bars. The altar is located in the center. The whole structure weighs several hundred tons.

This monument was built before Christ, so people did not have the necessary equipment to move the stones or any auxiliary materials. This has led to many debates among scientists about the origin and purpose of this structure.

It is known that Stonehenge was used for astronomical observations and calculations. Some of the stones are oriented in such a way that they indicate the exact location of the sun on certain days of the year. This suggests that the structure was important to ancient people. But what kind of importance?

One of the main mysteries of Stonehenge is how and in what way the large boulders were moved and set in place. This operation required considerable technical knowledge and human resources. Historians argue about this and put forward various, sometimes incredible, hypotheses.

Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK.

Research on this place continues to this day. New discoveries reveal information about the life of ancient civilizations and the possible purposes and destinations of Stonehenge.

Petra, Jordan

This is one of the most impressive archaeological wonders of the world, located in the Jordanian desert. Petra is an ancient city carved right into the rocks. It is considered one of the most important archaeological and cultural sites in Jordan.

Petra was founded by ancient Arab peoples, probably even before our era. The city was located on an important trade route connecting the Roman Empire with Arabia, India, and Iran.

The most famous building in Petra is the Treasury, or Al-Khazneh, a mausoleum carved into the rock that impresses with its grandeur and beauty. Other prominent structures include the Great Temple Square, the bridge and the Amphitheater.

One of the greatest technical achievements of the city is the water supply system. Most of the ancient settlement was fully supplied with not only technical but also drinking water, which was an incredible miracle at the time.

Petra attracts millions of tourists from all over the world and for good reason. Rock-cut buildings, deep canyons, and picturesque landscapes make the city extremely attractive to visitors.

There are many mysteries in the history of this landmark. In particular, it is not known why and how the ancient inhabitants of the city built the grandiose structures in the rocks and why these same people later left their homes. Historians also continue to study the political and economic role of the settlement in the ancient world. There are still many questions that scientists are not ready to answer with certainty.
