The answer is 42! Elon Musk has launched xAI, which will try to crack the code of the universe and become revenge for ChatGPT
Elon Musk, the creator of SpaceX and Tesla, has announced the launch of a new company that will develop artificial intelligence. Despite the ambitious goals set by the billionaire, the company's name is not very inventive - xAI.
The details of Musk's entry into the AI market are reported by Futurism. The main competitors of the American inventor's brainchild will be the existing developments of Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, in which Musk invested money at one time but never saw results.
Understand the reality
The billionaire did not hesitate to state that xAI was created "to understand reality".
"Announcing the creation of xAI to understand reality," Musk wrote on his Twitter account without adding any details.
The project's website is also intriguing, but adds little substance to its activities.
"Today we are announcing the creation of xAI. The goal of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe," reads the xAI presentation page.
According to The Verge, former researchers from DeepMind, Google Research, Microsoft, and other AI leaders are among the people who will work on Musk's new brainchild. This seems somewhat strange after Musk promised to sue Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who involved employees who once worked on Twitter in the creation of the Threads app.
xAI will actually become a separate division of X Corp, which Musk invented to replace Twitter, Inc. The AI company is said to work closely with Twitter, Tesla, and other companies "to make progress on our mission".
The media speculate that Musk intends to use Twitter's message database to train his AI. This is worrying, however, as Musk's acquisition of Twitter has resulted in a very specific freedom of speech there, which provides a platform for outright propaganda and pseudo-analytics.
Answering the questions of life, the universe and everything
As for the announced mission to reveal the secrets of the universe, there are simply no explanations of what exactly this should mean.
However, there is a certain hint for fans of science fiction writer Douglas Adams.
"What are the most fundamental questions that remain unanswered?" - reads the first tweet from the official xAI account.
To which Musk philosophically replied: "what are the most fundamental unknown questions?"
"Once you know the right question, the answer is often the easy part, as my hero Douglas Adams would say," Musk added.
In Adams' book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the supercomputer is asked to find the answer to "questions about life, the universe, and everything". After 7.5 million years of calculations, the supercomputer found the answer - 42! The only problem for the beings communicating with the computer was that to understand the answer, they needed to understand the essence of the question.
Musk added a screenshot to his tweet, which shows that the numbers that make up the project's launch date of 12 July 23 add up to 42.
Revenge of OpenAI and the "awakened"
According to Semaphor, Musk "has been hinting for months that he wants to create an alternative" artificial intelligence company. In particular, he said that he was kicking around the idea of creating TruthGPT, which he called "the most truthful AI possible, trying to understand the nature of the universe".
In this way, Musk seeks to enter into a direct confrontation with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, in which Musk initially invested but exited the project in 2018 after a failed attempt to launch it on his own.
He has repeatedly criticised the company as its products have become more successful over the past six months, calling it "awakened" and biased. "Awakened" refers to the American term woke, which has recently taken on a political connotation. Its supporters are against racial, sexual or gender discrimination, etc. In fact, staying woke means being attentive and responsive, but, strangely enough, not everyone likes it.
Apart from Musk, conservative American politicians have also accused ChatGPT of a leftist bias, so the demand for a "correct" AI may be quite high.
Western media summarise that the new project is fully in line with Elon Musk's adventurous behaviour, many of whose recent statements have only one goal: hype.
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that another Elon Musk company, Neuralink, was allowed to implant a chip in the human brain. The decision was made despite the fact that previous tests had killed more than 1500 animals.
