On a windowsill, these indoor plants can live no longer than 10 years. With few exceptions, with professional care, home orchids can reach the age of 15-20 years.

It should be noted that young orchids do not flower. That is, if you buy a plant with flowers in the store, it is definitely more than three years old. "Young" orchids simply do not give buds.

Thus, the more lush the orchid, the older it is. It is estimated that every 2 years the plant gives an average of 3 new sprouts. By listing the sprouts you can determine the age of the orchid quite accurately.

By the way, orchids in the natural environment are real long-livers. In London's Royal Botanic Gardens there are more than 20 representatives of this species that have crossed the 100-year mark. Probably these plants were already growing in the garden when the First World War ended, and exactly "saw" the beginning of the Second World War.
