How to clean suede shoes with products that are in every kitchen: useful tips

Yulia PoteriankoLife
Suede boots are particularly affected by salt in winter.

How many times have you denied yourself or your child the purchase of a beautiful pair of suede shoes because this material is difficult to clean? Most store-bought and home remedies are not suitable for it, so many people think it's easier to give up on the desired new item.

However, The Sun claims that suede is not that difficult to clean. What's more, you already have effective products at home.

Towel and rubber

Since suede is a fleecy material, it is enough to rub it with a clean, dry towel to loosen it and reveal hidden dirt. After that, you need to walk well over the stain with something rubber to erase it.

Vinegar

White vinegar will help to cope with more stubborn stains that cannot be removed with an eraser. Apply a small amount of it to a clean, soft cloth and rub it into the stain. When the treated area is dry, it will need to be combed with a dry towel to give the suede its usual texture.

Salt stain removers

Unlike smooth leather, which is quite easy to clean from salt stains, suede absorbs this paving material. Therefore, it will take a little effort to clean it, say experts from an American brand that produces water-repellent products.

Before you start, brush your suede shoes with a soft toothbrush or suede brush to remove all dirt, even the smallest ones. Carefully inspect the shoes to find any salt stains. You will most likely see traces of salt in the form of a white wavy line on the front of the boots and possibly on the soles.

To make a cleaning solution, mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of water. You can also make a solution with dishwashing detergent - half a teaspoon to a glass of water. The main thing is that the product should not be blue, green or any other dark colour. Ideally, it should be a clear liquid. Gently mix the soap and water.

Dampen a clean microfibre cloth or a new sponge with a mixture of vinegar and water or dishwashing liquid. Make sure not to get too wet. Using moderate pressure, gently blot the salt stains on the material with the damp cloth.

After you have treated the most soiled areas, gently go over other areas where dirt and other stains are visible in a circular motion. Always keep the cleaning cloth only damp and never soak it completely with the cleaning agent.

After cleaning, brush the suede with a toothbrush or a special brush to smooth the nap in one direction. Let the shoes air dry. To prevent salt stains from happening again, treat the pair with a water repellent.

Baking soda can also help remove salt stains from suede. Sprinkle it on the stained areas and leave the shoes for an hour. After that, use a moistened soft toothbrush to gently scrub the salt stains in a circular motion. The process creates a paste-like soda solution. Remove it with a dry cloth, then gently brush over the treated areas again to remove any residual baking soda and leave the pair to air dry.
