Thyme is a small perennial shrub that not only has medicinal properties and a beautiful appearance but will also make your dishes flavorful and savory. The plant can be used as an antifungal agent and a means to improve vision and the immune system.

If you take proper care of thyme, you can grow it at home. OBOZREVATEL has found effective tips to help you do this.

This Mediterranean plant will decorate your home and fill it with a pleasant aroma. It is one of the easiest plants to grow at home because it requires little water and can tolerate different temperatures.

The shrub loves sunlight, so you need to choose the right place for it. The flowerpot should be placed on a windowsill where it can receive sunlight for at least six hours every day. If there is not enough natural light, then use plant grow lamps to provide the necessary lighting.

For thyme, you should choose pots or containers that have drainage holes to avoid excessive moisture. You can also mix the soil with sand, which will improve the drainage of the soil, and the plant will grow better.

Keep an eye on the moisture level and water the plant when the top layer of soil becomes dry to the touch.

Thyme does not require constant fertilization. Fertilizer can be applied every 4-6 weeks.

Prune the plant regularly to keep it neat and dense, which will encourage the growth of new shoots. Also, don't forget to repot the flowerpot every few years.

If you grow thyme outdoors, you need to bring it indoors during the colder seasons. Place the flowerpot in a room, but avoid direct sunlight for 2-3 days so that the plant gets used to this environment. Then you can move the flowerpot to a sunny windowsill.
