Soviet symbols were dismantled from the Motherland monument in Kyiv: how it happened. Photos and video
In Kyiv, on Tuesday, 1 August, specialists continued to dismantle Soviet symbols from the shield of the Motherland monument. The lower and right parts of the USSR coat of arms, as well as the hammer and sickle, have already been completely removed.

On the morning of Tuesday, 1 August, specialists continued to dismantle Soviet symbols from the shield of the Motherland monument. So far, the lower right part of the USSR coat of arms and half of the left part, as well as the hammer and sickle, have been completely removed.
As of 17.00, only one star remained to be removed. Once all the work is completed, the Ukrainian trident will be installed on the shield.
Only the smallest elements of Soviet symbols remained on the shield.
As of 17:30, the dismantling of the Soviet coat of arms from the shield was completely completed. The specialists lowered the last element, the star, into the basket.
Former Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko said earlier that the renovated monument would be officially unveiled on 24 August, Ukraine's Independence Day.
The Motherland monument was erected in 1981 and is a monument of science and technology of local significance. It is considered the tallest monumental sculpture in Europe. In 2022, in Diya, 85% of 800,000 Ukrainians voted to replace the Soviet coat of arms with a trident.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the State Inspectorate for Architecture and Urban Planning has issued a permit to dismantle the Soviet coat of arms on the Motherland monument. The shield will be replaced with the coat of arms of Ukraine.
