Nutritionists have named a useful evening habit that will speed up metabolism
A healthy metabolism is based on three main principles. These are regular physical activity, a proper regime and, of course, a balanced diet.
Everything works together. There is no magic recipe that will instantly speed up your metabolism. But nutritionists advise paying attention to rooibos tea. The Shefinds publication told us about the benefits of the drink.
What is rooibos tea?
Rooibos is also known as red tea. It is grown in South Africa, where people have long used this variety to fight insomnia and inflammation.
"Rooibos is an herbal tea made by fermenting its leaves. That is why it has a characteristic red hue. The tea is packed with rich antioxidants contained in its natural polyphenols," said Josh Schlotman, a certified personal trainer and nutritionist.
Antioxidants help reduce inflammation by fighting harmful free radicals. According to Schlotman, free radicals cause oxidative stress in the body, which often leads to inflammation.
What are the benefits of rooibos?
Rooibos can not only help the digestive system, but also reduce inflammation in the body.
Expert nutritionist Sarah Chatfield added that "rooibos is a great choice for bedtime consumption as it is caffeine-free and has many health benefits." At the heart of a healthy metabolism is a healthy gut.
Sarah Chatfield noted that rooibos has flavonoids and antioxidant plant chemicals that have been found to have anti-inflammatory properties. "Rooibos tea also helps regulate blood sugar levels," she stressed.
The red tea has a sweet vanilla flavour and can be consumed with a squeeze of lemon or with the addition of milk.
Rooibos also contains magnesium, calcium and iron, which may help you get to sleep sooner. If you suffer from insomnia, try a cup of rooibos instead of your usual green or chamomile tea.
