How to wash white socks: they will be like new every time

Yulia PoteriankoLife
There are two ways to help maintain the whiteness of your socks effortlessly.

Soon the rains will end, the real spring warmth will come and the season of light shoes will begin. And with it, the time for white socks. Caring for them is very difficult - white knitwear easily collects street dust, turns grey and yellow. You can resort to bleach, but with frequent use, they quickly spoil the fabric.

OBOZREVATEL talks about life hacks that will help you effectively wash white socks without the help of aggressive chemicals. And they won't require much effort.

Laundry soap

Despite its rather unpleasant colour, laundry soap is a very effective and mild bleach. You can simply soak your socks in a solution of this product - this will help to lighten them. But there is an even more effective way to get rid of even stubborn stains.

First, soak the socks in soapy water with any detergent - powder or liquid. After an hour or two, they should be rinsed and soaped with laundry soap and put in a special solution - 2 tablespoons of soda ash and ammonia per 1 litre of hot water. After soaking for an hour, the socks should be washed in the usual way - in a machine or by hand.

Laundry soap and citric acid

This quick method will help to restore the whiteness of the fabric, but will not be as effective against stains. Wet your socks and soap them with laundry soap, then put them in a container of water. After an hour or two, they should be transferred to a citric acid solution, which is prepared at the rate of 0.5 teaspoon of powder per 100 ml of water. After 20 minutes of soaking, the socks will need to be rinsed and sent to dry.
