How to remove old grease

Even old stains can be removed from clothes with the help of improvised means. A few useful life hacks will help you save not only time but also money.

Before throwing a dirty item into the washing machine, you should treat greasy stains. OBOZREVATEL figured out how baking soda can help with this and whether it is possible to remove dirt with ordinary chalk.

Salt and baking soda

This universal remedy was used by our great-grandmothers. If the stain has not yet had time to dry, you can simply rub it with salt. Salt is able to absorb fat. Repeat the procedure several times until the stain disappears. Then wash the item in a washing machine.

It is not always possible to find salt nearby. If the stain is already dry, use a mixture of salt and baking soda.

The proportions are as follows: 150 ml of boiling water, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Mix everything thoroughly, pour it on the stain and leave it for an hour. Then add the laundry detergent and wash the item in the usual way.

Chalk

Chalk is suitable for coarse fabrics, such as denim. You can simply rub it firmly. For more delicate fabrics, pour pre-crushed chalk on the stain and leave it for at least an hour before washing.

Experts advise rubbing the dirty spot with wet laundry soap.

Laundry soap

Laundry soap has long been used to get rid of greasy stains. The stain was soaked in hot water with the addition of soap, and after a few hours, it was washed by hand or in a machine.

Dishwashing detergent

If you suddenly run out of laundry detergent and need to wash your clothes quickly, take a regular dishwashing detergent. Spread it on the stain and wait at least 15 minutes. Then put the clothes in the washing machine.

Tooth powder

Tooth powder also works well on grease on clothes. All you need is the powder, a paper towel, and an iron.

Sprinkle a thick layer of tooth powder on the stain. After that, put a paper towel on top and run it over with a hot iron. Repeat the procedure twice, adding another portion of powder. Next, experts advise putting something heavy on top, and letting the iron cool down.

This method should be used when you do not need the item urgently, because the clothes under the press should stand all night or at least 6 hours. In the morning, throw the dirty item into the washing machine.

These methods will help get rid of greasy stains. But if you don't want to take any risks, it's better to take your clothes to a dry cleaner. Remember that it is much easier to remove fresh stains than old ones. Home remedies should first be tested on an inconspicuous part of the garment to make sure that the color is not affected.
