Lemon and other readily available tools will help get rid of the smell of alcohol in the microwave

Burning food in the microwave is as easy as burning it on a conventional stove. But simply airing it out, as you would with a stove, won't solve the problem. The odor from inside the chamber won't disappear easily, and additional measures will be needed. Fortunately, it's not too difficult to get rid of the smell of burning in the microwave.

OBOZREVATEL tells you about the main life hacks in this regard. You will need simple ingredients at hand.

What to do if food is burnt in the microwave

First of all, open the door immediately. The longer the oven stays closed, the harder it will be to remove the odor. Find out what exactly caused the problem - usually a spill or splash of some kind. Once the oven has cooled down, immediately remove the burnt food with a damp cloth and dispose of it properly. Then proceed to deodorize the device.

How to remove burning odors naturally

Natural "killers" of burnt odors are lemon, vinegar, baking soda, coffee grounds, or activated charcoal. The simplest and yet most effective way is to fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and lemon juice or fruit slices, and then heat it at high power for two to five minutes. The lemon water vapor will neutralize the burning odor and leave a fresh scent.

Another option is to mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for two to five minutes. When the program is over and the oven has cooled down, you will need to wipe the camera dry to get rid of the specific vinegar odor. The burning odor will disappear along with it.

Coffee grounds, baking soda, and activated charcoal are also excellent odor absorbers. Simply place a small container of one of these products in the microwave for a few hours, such as overnight.

If you like sweet scents, pour a teaspoon of vanilla extract into a bowl and heat it for 30 seconds. Next, let the appliance cool for a minute and then heat for another 30 seconds.

How to keep your microwave clean

To prevent the oven from developing a burning smell, you need to remove food residues from the oven in time, and even better, prevent spills and crumbs. To do this, cover the food with microwave-safe lids or films.

Remember to follow the recommended power levels and cooking times for different types of food. Also, clean the inside and outside of the oven regularly. Be sure to clean up any spills or food residue immediately after use.

Always use containers and cookware that are suitable for use in a microwave oven. This way, you will avoid overcooking food or the appearance of toxic steam.
