How to get rid of limescale in the washing machine: three simple ways

One of the most common problems with a washing machine is the heating element, which breaks down due to a large amount of salt deposits on it. Therefore, if you want the appliance to serve you as long as possible, it is important to know how to clean the limescale in your washing machine.

Citric acid

Acidic agents help to destroy even old limescale, so ordinary citric acid can be very effective here. The amount of acid needed for cleaning can be calculated based on the maximum load of your machine: for 1 kilogram of laundry, you will need 20-30 grams of dry acid. So, a 5 kg washing machine will require 100-150 grams of acid to clean.

Pour the product into the detergent tray and turn on an empty machine with the medium cycle with the maximum water temperature. In the middle of the cycle, when the drum is full of water, the washing should be stopped. Let the solution act inside for 2-3 hours. After that, resume the cycle and add another rinse.

Vinegar

Another acid that effectively removes limescale is acetic acid. To clean the washer with it, take 1.5-2 cups of 9% vinegar. Pour the liquid into the powder tray and run an empty machine with a medium wash cycle with hot water. After the cycle is complete, run an extra rinse.

Vinegar and baking soda

To enhance the cleaning effect of vinegar, you can add baking soda: the substances will react and remove even old limescale. First, mix half a cup of dry baking soda with the same amount of water. Add this paste to the detergent tray. You will need to add a glass of vinegar with a concentration of 9% to the drum. Then select the medium cycle and high temperature again. After the cycle is complete, rinse the machine again.
