How to create the illusion of a clean apartment: 4 rules that will save everyone

You can do your best to keep your home tidy - regularly mopping the floor or dusting - but the apartment will look untidy from the outside. In the event of an unplanned visit from guests, you face the daunting task of quickly cleaning the apartment to create the "illusion of cleanliness."

A messy house is unlikely to prevent you from inviting your closest people, but when preparing for an important event or celebration, you should make your home as clean and tidy as possible. Apartment Therapy has told you how to quickly clean your apartment.

Rule 1

"Sort out the dirty dishes. Putting dirty dishes out of sight is one of the top priorities for creating a clean effect. If there is an unexpected force majeure and guests are already on the doorstep, you can temporarily hide the mess: pots and pans in the oven, plates in the sink at least.

Rule 2

Hide the mess. The accumulation of unnecessary things also has a huge impact on the overall look of the room and the feeling of space. If you can quickly clean surfaces and put away items, great. But if not, there are other ways to deal with clutter. Cleaning experts advise placing things on high open shelves at right angles to make it look like everything is in its place.

Stock up on a few large boxes in advance to simply dump things in during an emergency cleaning. Or use laundry baskets.

Rule 3

Ventilate the room regularly - the air should circulate freely. A fresh scent goes a long way toward creating the illusion of cleanliness.

Brew sweet and spicy tea or make cinnamon coffee. Or use scented oils to create a pleasant aroma. You can also light scented candles to add a cozy atmosphere to your home.

Rule 4

If you still didn't have time to do something, don't panic or worry. Guests will be more confused by nervous hosts in the house than by a small mess. As a last resort, you can simply cover the mountains of clothes or children's things with a blanket.
