How to clean sports shoes

Sneakers are comfortable and indispensable shoes in everyday life. However, there is a significant drawback: after playing sports, jogging, or taking a regular walk, sneakers often leave a sharp, unpleasant odor.

This is a matter not only of comfort but also of skin hygiene and shoe life. Informacion explains how to clean your sneakers after sports to get rid of the odor.

First step: Preparation

Before you begin, be sure to remove laces and insoles from your shoes. This will ensure a deeper cleaning.

Second step: Pre-cleaning

Use a soft-bristled brush or dry cloth to remove surface dirt. This step is crucial to prevent dirt from spreading or further penetrating the fabric during the washing process.

Third step: Washing

The washing option depends on the material of sneakers

For fabric or mesh sneakers, mix warm water with a little liquid detergent. Dip a soft-bristled brush in the solution and gently scrub the shoes. Avoid using too much water to avoid leaving streaks on the surface.

For leather or synthetic shoes, use a damp cloth with a mild detergent. Clean the affected areas with gentle circular motions.

Fourth step: Rinse and dry

Use a clean, damp cloth to remove any residual detergent from the shoes. It is important not to immerse them completely in water, especially if they are made of materials that are easily damaged by moisture.

Place the shoes in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Alternatively, you can stuff them with newspaper or paper to absorb internal moisture and keep them in shape. Change the filling every few hours until the shoes are completely dry.

Sixth step: Fight odors

  • Apply a generous layer of baking soda inside each shoe, leave it on overnight, and clean it thoroughly in the morning. Baking soda absorbs odors and moisture.
  • Put a few dry tea bags in your sneakers for a few hours or overnight. Tea bags can absorb odor and leave a fresh scent.
  • Shoe deodorizers. There are special sprays on the market to eliminate odors. They are a practical and quick solution to the problem.

Tips for caring for your sneakers

  1. If possible, do not wear the same pair of sneakers two days in a row. Allowing them time to air out and dry between uses can prevent moisture and odor buildup.
  2. If your shoes have removable insoles, you should wash them regularly.
  3. Do not use a hair dryer or place shoes near radiators as heat can damage the material.
