How to clean a dirty laptop at home: step-by-step instructions

How to clean a laptop

A laptop requires regular cleaning from dirt and dust. A sticky keyboard and food residue under the keys are only external aesthetic aspects; in fact, the entire surface can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

PC World experts tell you how to clean your laptop safely. Three simple steps are enough.

Step 1.

Let's start with the most obvious: make sure you turn the laptop off and unplug it. You will need a damp cloth for cleaning, so precautions are extremely important.

Use compressed air for the vents, USB ports, keys, etc. The first step in cleaning your laptop is to remove any loose particles. Spray compressed air at a sufficient distance from the device. This is necessary so that condensation does not accumulate in the cracks. If the laptop has wide ventilation holes, point the nozzle at them and blow well.

Step 2

Wipe your laptop with a damp microfiber cloth. Experts recommend applying a few drops of alcohol on a damp cloth - this is also a good way to disinfect the keyboard.

Never use harsh cleaners, ammonia or bleach directly on the laptop. Liquid can get into the crevices and cause a breakdown.

Step 3

Take a cotton swab, soak it in alcohol, and clean the spaces between the keys on the keyboard. This is a great way to clean hard-to-reach places.
