Chichen Itza: the mysteries of the Indian pyramid that still shock mankind

Albina PanchenkoLife
Interesting facts about the Indian pyramid

Chichen Itza is one of the most famous and mysterious places in the world. Located in the south of Mexico, in the state of Yucatan, this Indian pyramid attracts tourists and explorers from all over the world. However, don't just think of it as picturesque views and amazing architecture. Behind this striking image are numerous secrets that have yet to be fully revealed.

Incredible Native American architecture

Chichen Itza was an ancient Mayan city that flourished between 600 and 1200 AD. It was a political, religious and commercial center.

It is still unclear how exactly the Native American craftsmen were able to build such a huge and complex structure without modern technology. The pyramid of El Castillo, the most famous structure of Chichen Itza, consists of stone blocks carefully carved and stacked without any visible joints. How the ancient engineers were able to achieve such precision in the construction remains a mystery. Some theories point to the possible use of primitive lifting devices, others emphasize the help of unknown inventions or extraterrestrial civilizations. However, the details of this process remain beyond our understanding.

Also an important part of Chichen Itza is the Ball Tower, which is located next to the pyramid. This circular structure contains murals and reliefs depicting people with non-Indian facial features. This draws attention to a possible connection between the Maya and other civilizations, such as the mysterious Atlanteans or aliens. Although historians have not yet found evidence of a close connection between the natives and the outside world, the hypothesis is still the subject of speculation and debate.

Religion and astronomy

Another mystery associated with Chichen Itza is the way the inhabitants of that city used the pyramid in their religious life. Researchers have discovered that the structure served as a temple, probably dedicated to various gods and goddesses of the ancient civilization. But exactly how the rites and sacrifices were performed remains a mystery.

Archaeologists have found evidence of ritual killings and burnings on the pyramid, but the exact details of these events are unknown. Were there secret passages or crypts inside the pyramid used by the Maya? This question still has no unequivocal answer.

One of the most mysterious aspects of Chichen Itza is its astronomical properties. The pyramid of El Castillo was intentionally designed so that the sun creates a striking light show. It has 365 steps, which corresponds to the number of days in a year. Equally striking is the astronomical effect during the spring and fall equinoxes, when the illusion of the sun rising in the form of a falling snake appears.

This demonstrates the high level of Mayan knowledge of astronomy and mathematics. And yet, scientists still do not agree on how exactly the Indians were able to determine the exact angle of inclination of the pyramid and the placement of its steps to achieve such an effect.

The Mythology of this Mysterious Place

Finally, one of the most fantastic mysteries of Chichen Itza is the presence of the legendary "Chinese Sanctuary" inside the pyramid. According to legend, this secret chamber held a priceless treasury that was never found. Does this room really exist or is it just a myth? Or maybe the hidden room was used for other purposes at all, such as for sacred rituals or to store important artifacts.

Chichen Itza continues to fascinate and intrigue people from all over the world. This Native American pyramid is a testament to the greatness and intelligence of ancient civilizations. Archaeological excavations and research continue to this day.

In 2007, this monument was included in the list of the New Seven Wonders of the World, which includes such sites as the Great Wall of China and the Colosseum. The Mayan pyramid is recognized as a world wonder and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You can get to Chichen Itza from the city of Merida or Cancun, two popular tourist destinations in Mexico. There are organized tours, buses and cabs that head to the site. It is also possible to rent a car.

There is a point at the entrance to the ancient city where you must purchase a ticket. Guides are also available, telling interesting facts and history of the place. It is important to bring comfortable shoes and sun protection, as the walk can take some time.

Thousands of tourists come here every day during peak season, so it's rarely crowded. If you want to avoid the crowds, it is advisable to visit the site early in the morning or late in the evening. Besides the Pyramid of Kukulkan, Chichen Ica has other sights such as Milirpool (local temple), Caracol (Observatory) and Nunyal (Great Square).

Visiting an ancient landmark is a fascinating experience, allowing you to discover the wonderful world of the Maya and marvel at the grandeur and architectural craftsmanship of this civilization. Perhaps you will be the one to discover the secrets hidden behind the walls of the high pyramid.
