Often, after purchases, all the products are simply put into the refrigerator. And after a while, you can see how many of them start to deteriorate. All this is due to the wrong neighborhood.

Therefore, the FoodOboz editorial team will tell you which products should not be stored together in the refrigerator and which should not be put there at all.

Some foods should not be kept in the refrigerator at all:

  • apricots
  • avocados
  • pineapples
  • bananas
  • pears
  • melons
  • potatoes
  • kiwi
  • onions
  • peaches
  • citrus fruits and garlic

What foods should not be stored together in the refrigerator:

If you do put bananas in the fridge, make sure to give them a separate place. The fact is that this fruit releases a plant hormone for rapid ripening, so neighboring products may simply spoil.

Also, apricots, pears, apples, and potatoes emit ethylene less actively.

Do not store ripe fruits together with unripe fruits, because due to the release of ethylene, unripe fruits will begin to ripen faster.

Apples and oranges should not be stored together. Oranges need to be well-ventilated, but apples do not.

Pears and apples should not be stored together with pumpkin, as they will quickly become moldy. Pumpkins can be stored for a long time.

Avocados are strongly influenced by the smell of pineapple, so these foods should not be stored together.

Grapes, figs, mushrooms, and rhubarb should not be stored with green onions.

Do not store figs, grapes, mushrooms, rhubarb, and corn together with green onions.

It is best to put carrots, beets, and onions in separate paper bags. Together they will exchange flavors and spoil quickly.
