You've always done it wrong: how to keep bananas fresh for 10 days
Bananas don't have a long shelf life, and in general, they can turn from unripe green to black and soft in just one day, which is good only for making banana bread.
Recently, fruit grower and chef Thanh Truong told how to extend the shelf life of bananas to 10 days in a fresh state, the Mirror reports. According to the expert, the main problem is that people store bananas in the wrong place.
Truong argues that storing different fruits in the same fruit plate causes them to spoil quickly due to "competing interests." If you add apples, for example, to a fruit plate that should be kept in the refrigerator, it will quickly spoil the bananas. The fact is that bananas grow in warm climates, and therefore cannot tolerate cold.
You can also wrap the tips of the bananas in foil or cling film, separating them from each other. This way, you will reduce the effect of ethylene on fresh bananas. That's why it's best to store bananas at room temperature and without any other fruit in the vicinity.
