What kind of porridge can be prepared for a child instead of semolina if he does not like it: no lumps
Feeding a child healthy porridges is a challenge. Especially with semolina, because it often has lumps in it that kids hate. But there is one cereal that is very similar in properties to semolina. We are talking about corn porridge.
The idea of making milk corn porridge for children instead of semolina was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Kateryna Brailo (ketiv_). It is important to observe the proportions - then you will get a really tasty dish.
Ingredients:
- corn grits (polished) - 150 g
- water - 400 ml
- milk - 300 ml
- butter - 20 g
Method of preparation:
1. The amount of liquid depends on the consistency you want to get and the grinding of the grits (the finer the grits, the faster they cook). In general, for corn grits, you need a 1:3 ratio of liquids.
2. There are several variations of cooking corn porridge: 50/50 water/milk, with milk, with cream, but first with water, then with milk.
3. Rinse the groats. Pour 400 ml of water into a saucepan, bring to a boil.
4. Pour in 150 g of corn grits, stirring constantly over low heat (this is important).
5. Cook for about 7 minutes, when the water is almost absorbed and the cereal thickens.
6. Add the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps (this is the main secret) until the cereal is ready. It is convenient to do this with a whisk. You can adjust the consistency during the cooking process and, if necessary, add more milk (if the porridge is too thick).
7. The cooking time for corn grits depends on the grinding of the grits: the finer the grits, the faster it cooks, and the amount of liquid is also reduced (the general norms in relation to the liquid are 1:3).
8. At the end, be sure to add butter, stir and serve hot (warm for children).
