How to cook and serve dumplings with cabbage in an unusual way: a new vision of a familiar dish
For every Ukrainian housewife, making dumplings is a quite familiar process. But sometimes you really want to experiment and add new flavors to the dish.
Food blogger Olha Riabenko had just such a desire. On her Instagram, she suggested making dumplings with cabbage baked in the oven with mushroom sauce.
Ingredients for the dough:
- Flour – 300 gr
- Boiling water – 200 ml
- Yolk – 1 pc
- Oil – 2 tbsp
Ingredients for the filling:
- Sauerkraut – 350 g
- Onion – 1 pc
- Salt
- Pepper
Ingredients for the sauce
- Dried porcini mushrooms – 100 g (optional)
- Mushrooms – 300 gr
- Cream 20-30% – 500 ml
- Water – 200 ml
- Onions – 2 pcs
- Parsley
- Salt
- Sugar
Method of preparation:
1. First, prepare the filling. If the sauerkraut is too sour, rinse it.
2. Dice the onion and fry in vegetable oil. Add to the cabbage, season with salt and pepper, and mix.
3. Now proceed to the preparation of the dough. Knead an elastic dough from all the ingredients, form it into a ball, cover it with a damp towel, and leave for half an hour.
4. Then divide it into several pieces and roll each one out with a rolling pin on a floured table into a thin layer.
5. Cut out circles, and fill with the filling and form dumplings.
6. Put the dumplings in the freezer.
7. Now prepare the sauce. Chop the mushrooms and fry them together with porcini mushrooms in vegetable oil until golden brown.
8. Add the onion, cut into half rings.
9. Pour in the cream, add salt and sugar, and cook until half the liquid has evaporated.
10. Add chopped herbs.
11. Put one layer of frozen dumplings on the bottom of the pan. Pour half of the mushroom sauce on top and put another layer of dumplings.
12. Pour the remaining mushroom sauce on top and pour in a glass of water.
13. Cover the pot and put it in the oven preheated to 200º for 40 minutes.
