Hearty Zelňačka soup: from everything in the fridge

Zelňačka is a very tasty and satisfying Czech soup. It is always cooked with sausages and sauerkraut, and spicy spices and vegetables are added. The dish is rich and thick.

Food blogger Halyna Nemesh (halyna_nemesh) shared a recipe for Czech Zelňačka soup on her Instagram page.

Ingredients:

  • potatoes - 4-5 pcs
  • onions - 1-2 pcs
  • smoked sausages
  • sauerkraut - 400 g
  • flour - 3 tbsp
  • cream cheese (not included in the original recipe)
  • salt, pepper
  • sugar - 4 tbsp (depends on the acidity of the cabbage)
  • red paprika - 1 tbsp.
  • garlic 1-2 cloves

Method of preparation:

1. Peel the potatoes, cut them into cubes and boil in salted water.

2. Meanwhile, chop the onion and lightly fry it.

3. Chop and add the sausages to the onion. Stir and add flour and paprika. Fry for 1 minute.

4. Add sauerkraut and fry for another 1-2 minutes. Optionally, add cream cheese or heavy sour cream at the end (the original recipe does not include milk).

5. Add the finished roast to the potatoes, add your favorite spices and bring the soup to a simmer. Add garlic at the end if desired. Enjoy your meal!
