Bagels that don't get stale: what ingredient to add to the dough
Bagels are a flavorful and tasty homemade pastry for tea. They are made with different fillings: poppy seeds, cherries, apples, jam or chocolate, and from different doughs: yeast, puff pastry, phyllo or custard. And to make them better stored and not stale, you should add one simple ingredient to the dough.
Food blogger Anna with the nickname anny.cooking shared a recipe for crispy bagels with a filling on Instagram. To keep them from getting stale for a long time, the dough should be made with kefir. For a better effect, some cooks advise adding a little vodka.
Ingredients:
- eggs - 2 pcs
- sugar - 100 g
- salt - a pinch
- kefir - 220 g
- vegetable oil - 100 ml
- flour - 550 g
- baking powder - 1.5 tsp.
Filling: thick jam, chocolate, cinnamon with sugar, apples, cherries.
Method of preparation:
1. Mix eggs, salt, sugar, kefir, and oil in a bowl and beat with a whisk until smooth.
2. Add the sifted flour and baking powder, vanilla, or citrus zest if desired, and knead the dough. The dough should be soft and not stick to your hands. Add more flour if necessary.
3. Divide the dough into 6 pieces, and roll out the dough on a floured surface. Then cut it into 8 pieces.
4. Form the bagels with the filling.
5. Put them on parchment or a silicone mat and bake the bagels in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes until golden and light in color. Enjoy!
