Ukrainian actor Roman Sobolevskyi ("The Horse's Back", "The Rascal 2", "The Apostates") has made headlines with outrageous statements about Cossacks, Ukrainian television production, Russian songs, and more. The artist, who lives with his family in the UK, believes that without Moscow, Ukrainians "cannot come up with worthy projects," and also said that he tells his son stories about Cossack rapists and sings Russian-language songs to the child.

He issued a stream of nonsense in response to a post by journalist Alina Dorotiuk accusing him of promoting the songs of Ukraine's traitor Anna Asti. The fact is that in late July, the Ukrainian actor posted a video on Instagram where he sings one of his collaborator's tracks to a lullaby to his baby.

How the scandal began

The video with her son caused outrage among Alina Dorotiuk, who noted that the actor had previously gotten into scandals because of the ambiguous narratives he broadcast on social media.

The journalist addressed the producers: "Dear producers, personally, I would not like to see such characters in our film series production. I would not want it to appear that we are creating a truly worthy Ukrainian product with one hand. And on the other hand, we are not against the Russian narratives that such "heroes" impose."

A friend sent the Ukrainian actor, who until recently had been posting photos from Kyiv, the post. After reading Dorotiuk's position, Sobolevskyi exploded with insults towards her.

Roman Sobolevskyi's reaction

The actor tried to humiliate the interviewer and accuse her of making Ukrainians look like "illiterate and talentless collective farmers." As for her appeal to the producers, the artist ridiculed the Ukrainian and said that everyone involved in the film series would laugh at her request.

"They will think to themselves or even say in a narrow circle that this collective farmer, pardon the expression, is again giving out these pearls. You wrote there about the quality of the products. This is what I want to record and emphasize. I would like to see it. I think even those who create audiovisual content in Ukraine would like to see this production," Sobolevskyi said, hinting that there is no quality content in the country.

Commenting on the accusations that he sang Russian songs to his young son, the actor for some reason mentioned the Cossacks.

"I tell him such things about the Cossacks that the Cossacks were rapists and passive homosexuals. By the way, there are not one or two of them in our film industry. And I am fine with it. He likes it, and so do I," Sobolevskyi said.

He does not believe that he was involved in any pro-Russian scandals. It should be noted that Ukrainians do criticize the actor's Russian language and some of his posts on social media.

Sobolevskyi calls the accusations against him "event burnout" and accuses Ukrainians of looking for treason.

"It is possible to change some vector, for example, I don't know, to come up with something original for once in your life, to make original content. You're all still shitting on this Moscow. Remove Moscow from your creativity, and your creativity will end. Make an original product, come up with some kind of program... I'm going to go now and sing Russian songs to my son until the morning," the Ukrainian concluded.

Roman Sobolevskyi's position on the scandal

Analyzing the actor's page, which is subscribed to by almost 1500 people, one can see that most of his posts are in Russian, and there is not a word about Russia, the aggressor, or war crimes. Until recently, the actor used to post photos with the geolocation of Kyiv, but in the spring of 2024, the labels were replaced by European and other cities.

The blog contains references to Pushkin, Bulgakov, and Russian singers.
